A CHARMING visit with Jay Leno won’t fix it. A 90-percent-tax on bankers’ bonuses won’t fix it. Firing Timothy Geithner won’t fix it. Unless and until Barack Obama addresses the full depth of Americans’ anger with his full arsenal of policy smarts and political gifts, his presidency and, worse, our economy will be paralyzed.
It’s clear to those economic pundits that Obama doesn;t have a clue as to how we got into this mess nor does he have a clue to how to “stitch” America back up before the long and lingering infection sets in.

Sometimes the truth isn’t good enough. Sometimes people deserve to have their faith rewarded. In short, Obama is the president we need right now- just not the president we deserve. America deserves better.

As of this morning, (February 10, 2009) this is the kind of America we live in.

We live in an America in which the Republican party is willing to allow the country to go down the drain for its own short-term political gain. Here is the potentially catastrophic game of chicken the Republicans are playing: They want to force enough compromises in the stimulus bill — which is already not bold enough – to make it too weak to succeed. Then, having negotiated these compromises, they won’t even vote for it — which will allow them to run against the “collapsed Democratic economy” in 2010. and try and regain the White House in 2012.

Bush may not have created the conflict but he sure exacerbated it handing over the unfinished mess in Iraq to Obama. What choice do Americans have now but to maintain the focus and resist compacency? We did not have solemn responisbilites in Irag before George W. declared a war on terrorists with his “Axis of Evil” speech in which he included as the axis, Iran. Now, America has to choice but to keep its guard up and let me tell you why.

Instead, kick back, hold up your glass, and toast the obvious winner as America holds it’s breath and takes one giant and courageous step into our future together as Americans.
